This year nearly 100 alumni from across the country returned to Darrell K. Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium for a evening that proved to be historic for the TWAA on numerous fronts.
Here is the event and annual recap:
The alumni database has grown to include over 400 Wranglers from 21 states and five countries
Leveraging the momentum from the 2016 reunion, the TWAA approved a provisional and expanded 12-member board and governing constitution
The membership pulled together to elevate our collected dues by 180% to nearly 100 alumni which give the organization a budgetary surplus for the first time in recent memory
TWAA expanded our giving to make charitable contributions to the Mavericks Memorial Run in the fall and the Two-Step Throw-Down (supporting The Mona Foundation) in the spring
Doubling down on our commitment to unify the base, the TWAA board held Chapter Events throughout the year in our major hubs of Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio
Building off the year-one theme “Unify,” the year-two theme in the board’s three-year vision is “Activate” which aims for greater information sharing, growing our philanthropic footprint, and better integrating and engaging new alumni
Following an impassioned presentation at the event by Alex Bonetti, the W’s in attendance took great strides in closing out our historic capital campaign for the Wrangler Room located on the UT campus
To further strengthen our connection with the actives, the night included attendance of both the Actives leadership and the Mavericks for the first time in the organization's history
The Actives presented an overview of their extremely successful year that included:
Winner of the competitive campus-wide Swing Out awards for Most Outstanding Organization and Best Service Organization
Over $50,000 raised for charity
Revitalization of commitment to serving the UT basketball team with a reserved seating section, on-campus watch party, and personal relationship with head coach Shaka Smart
The evening also marked the first external TWAA reunion keynote speaker with former NFL coach, author, and founding director of the Center for Sports Leadership and Innovation, Daron K. Roberts delivering a motivating address
Next year’s reunion and all forthcoming annual reunions will be held on the first Saturday of May (May 5, 2018)
